A Comparison of Three different Techniques for Object Recognition
Almantsri, Ahmed; Alhamrouni, Mohamed; SENGÜL, Gökhan
The rapid change in computer applications helps improving the efficiency of image processing techniques such as object recognition from multimedia. During the last few decades, many techniques were introduced by involving the interdisciplinary fields of computer science as a classification tool. In this paper, we used three different image classifiers techniques K- Nearest Neighbors (KNN), Support Vector Machine (SVM), and Earth Mover's Distance (EMD). These techniques require feature extraction, such as the Histogram of Oriented Gradient (HOG) algorithm. Regarding the datasets, we used COIL-100 dataset as a well-known dataset for Object recognition experiments. We divided the dataset into seven subsets. Then, we tested and compared the three algorithms using these subsets individually. Finally, we compared the results and We found that SVM and EMD are more efficient even though we used a large subset while KNN is affected when the dataset gets larger

Libyan Vehicle Number Plate Recognition System using (WHT)
Elbokhare, Anisa F.; Gamati, EmadEddin; Soliman, Amani M.
One of the most important systems in our life today is the vehicle license plate recognition system, which is used to identify cars based on plate numbers. This process faces several problems due to the differences in the plate number shapes, lighting and dust, in addition to the problem of recognizing the Arabic letters. An automatic license plate recognition mechanism based on the Libyan system of numbering cars license plates is proposed in this paper by using an optical character recognition (OCR) with the Walsh-Hadamard Transform (WHT) approach. The results of the experiments were promising in terms of identifying cars via reading (recognizing) the license plates correctly. The major errors were related to the low quality of input images which caused wrong readings

-Helicobacter pylori infections occur earlier in life with high frequency in developing countries. It has been reported that the source of drinking water as a potential route of transmission. There is no information available regarding the prevalence of H. pylori infection in asymptomatic children and adults, and its associated risk factors in rural regions. Objectives: To establish the current prevalence of H. pylori infection among asymptomatic Secondary- School and university students in Kasr Khiar city and its associated risk factors. Materials and Methods: A Blood sample of (125) healthy students of two secondary schools, and (100) healthy adult students of Faculty of Arts & Sciences, Al- Merghib University in Kasr Khiar city, using immunochromatographic rapid method to detect anti-H. pylori IgG, and questionnaire covering Sociodemographic variables were completed by interview. Results: overall, seroprevalence of H. pylori was 85% in the healthy university students, there was a gradual increase with age, and no statistical difference between genders. However, H. pylori was 65%, 81% in the secondary school boys’ children, secondary school girls’ children respectively. The highest percentage of positive infected H. pylori in subjects who are using private untreated well-water drinking than those the commercial water supply. Conclusions: The prevalence of H. pylori infection is high among the secondary school healthy students, as well as the university adult students in Kasr Khiar region, which might be related to the socioeconomic status, and living conditions, as major risk factors for H. pylori infection. Our data indicate that the source of drinking water is an important mechanism for the transmission of H. pylori in a rural region. However, larger studies in other regions of Libya should be conducted to confirm the study finding, using molecular typing techniques to help trace the route of transmission in future

The Importance of Writing an Appropriate Abstract for Postgraduate EFL Libyan Students
Elmojahed, Ali Ahmed
A careful examination of a number of dissertations written by some Libyan EFL postgraduate students, has shown that they have problems in writing abstracts. The problem lies in the fact that students include unnecessary information or exclude some essential information in their abstracts. The aim of the current paper is to shed light on the importance of writing an appropriate abstract for postgraduate EFL Libyan students. The data for this research was collected from some examples of inappropriate abstracts written by some EFL Libyan postgraduate students and from questionnaires distributed among some lecturers in postgraduate English Departments at the Libyan Academy, Tripoli University, Zawia University, Sabrata University, and Bengahzi University. The collected data was consistent with the hypothesis. The results of the present paper showed that students have some problems in writing dissertation abstracts. On one hand, they exclude some essential information from their abstracts and on the other hand, they include lengthy background information, or unnecessary details. This investigation contributed in highlighting an important area of writing research papers. The findings indicated that more attention should be paid to writing this important part of research papers
